“Looking at stars was a pastime the family enjoyed, a perfect alternative to flowers. Recommend this very highly”Irene S, a remembrance gift
You do not have to find perfect words. A familiar phrase, a small memory or simply their name can be enough.
These are starting points, not rules. Choose what feels appropriate for you and, if it is a gift, for the person receiving it.
A saying, a favourite place, the way they made everyone feel welcome. Let the dedication hold a detail that brings their life to mind.
Use the name you called them, a date from your life together or a few words only you would understand. A single-star dedication can hold all of that meaning.
Your words can be warm, ordinary or even gently funny if that reflects them. There is no need for a formal tribute when a familiar memory feels more true.
Consider whether the recipient would welcome a star dedication, and ask if you are unsure. Use their loved one’s name as they prefer it, and avoid telling them how they should feel.

A name, a date and a few words of remembrance are enough. If it is a gift, check the wording with their family. For example:
In loving memory of Dad. Always missed. Love, Anna and James.
For Alex. I miss you every day. With all my love, Sam.
In memory of Leila. Thank you for being such a good friend. Love, Kate.

Yes. You can dedicate a real star in our private register with their name, a date you choose and a personal message. It is a symbolic memorial keepsake, not an official astronomical naming or ownership of a star.
It depends on the person receiving it. Some people welcome a personal memorial keepsake; others prefer a different kind of support. Consider their preferences and beliefs, and ask if you are unsure. A dedication should not come with any expectation of how they will feel or respond.
The printed Standard Star package currently costs £42.90, or £23.90 for PDF-only delivery. Printed Zodiac Star is £53.90 and Binary Star is £72.90. Standard includes a personal dedication; choosing a more expensive package does not make the tribute more meaningful. Extras and delivery charges are shown before payment.
Choose a date that feels appropriate to you, such as their birthday, a shared anniversary or another meaningful day. You do not have to use the date of their death. If it is a gift, ask the recipient which date they would prefer.
Use their name and a few words that reflect who they were: a familiar phrase, a small memory or a simple expression of love. You do not need to explain the loss or use religious language. If writing for someone else, avoid making assumptions about their beliefs or grief.
No. Standard Star includes a name and personal dedication. Zodiac Star adds a constellation choice, and Binary Star offers a two-star pairing. Those are optional forms of symbolism; choose them only if they have meaning for your tribute.
No. Star Registration records the dedication in its private register. The International Astronomical Union does not recognise purchased star names. The star retains its scientific catalogue designation, and the dedication grants no ownership or legal rights.
The map and Star Finder app help you locate the registered star. An unaided view cannot be guaranteed: visibility depends on the star’s brightness and position, your location, the season, weather and light pollution. Some stars require binoculars or a telescope.
Yes. Choose a printed package for physical documents, or PDF-only delivery if you prefer to print them yourself. A frame and gift box are optional additions. DHL Express 2–3 business days (£15.90), FedEx Standard 4–6 business days (£9.90), Free shipping 8–10 business days (Free)
Yes. You write the message, so it can be entirely non-religious or reflect beliefs you choose. The gift itself makes no claim about an afterlife or a person’s presence in the star. For a sympathy gift, use language the recipient is comfortable with.
